An integrated ecosystem for research, production and innovation in life sciences

Campania represents one of Italy’s leading hubs in the pharmaceutical and biotech sector, thanks to a consolidated combination of production capabilities, scientific research and highly qualified human capital. The territory hosts a structured supply chain covering the entire value cycle, from preclinical and clinical research to industrial production and advanced services for the life sciences.

In recent years the sector has benefited from the presence of leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies, supported by a diverse ecosystem of specialised SMEs and research operators. The territory has also hosted production, research and clinical-trial activities linked to national and international life-sciences groups, contributing to an ecosystem geared towards innovation and long-term growth.

The Region hosts research centres and scientific infrastructures of national significance, fostering collaboration between universities, public research centres and private companies. The main centres of excellence include institutes of the National Research Council (CNR), CEINGE – Biotecnologie Avanzate and 2 I.R.C.C.S. (National Cancer Institute "Fondazione G. Pascale" and SDN), as well as the medical and scientific departments of the Campania universities. The presence of these assets strengthens Campania’s attractiveness for investments in research, development and high-added-value production.
